House Rules

Conventions:

  • All stories should include at least 2 grogs
  • All ongoing, major plotlines should interest one magus or companion from each player sufficiently to participate
  • Non-isolationist saga. Interaction in Hermetic environment as well as mundane
  • All magi should have at least one spell to defend him-/herself with or to escape danger

House Rules:

Initiative

  • Opsummering af Initiative, implementering af flere valgfri regler fra Lords og Men samt et par hus-regel-tilretninger:
    • Initiative rulles én gang per hændelse og ændrer sig ikke
    • F.eks. påvirkes den ikke af Fatigue- og Wound Penalties der måtte komme i kampen, men modificeres af dem der er gældende ved hændelsens start
    • Initiative Total er: Quickness - Encumberance + Stress Die
    • Våbens Init modifier bruges altså *ikke* mere, heller ikke Fast Caster virtue, ikke det det grundlæggende Initiative (men se senere). Dette er fordi man eller risikerer at komme først i Init ved at have et sværd selvom man måske ikke bruger det men løber. Det bruges dog i Action Priority Rolls (se senere)
    • På ens Initiative må man tage sin handling, eller man kan vælge en Delayed Action!
    • Delay betyder man venter med at gøre noget (og beslutte hvad) indtil en specifik ting sker, f.eks. at man venter og ser hvad andre gør. Hændelsen der aktiverer ens Delayed Action sker således før ens egen handling medmindre man vælger at Interrupt!
    • Interrupt er når man med enten en Delayed Action eller på et Fast-Cast Defense prøver at komme en fjende i forkøbet. Når denne handling kaldes skal man lave et Action Priority Roll for at se hvordan timingen er, om man er hurtig nok. Dvs. dette er ikke bundet op på det indledende Initiative rul for runden men er mere flydende og kan variere fra handling til handling.
    • Action Priority Roll er: Quickness - Encumberance + [Ability] + special modifiers.
    • Ability er den der er relevant for ens handling: I kamp bruges Weapon Abillities, for magi bruges Finesse, for bevægelse bruges Athletics etc.
    • Special modifiers er våbnets Init modifier i kamp, Fast-Caster Virtue og Quick Casting Mastery for magi
    • Og vores fortolkning på Fast-Cast Defense er at det skal være en defensiv handling, og ikke bare en mulighed for at skyde en ekstra angrebsformular afsted, og det skal ske som reaktion på angreb på en selv eller nogen tæt på.
    • Fast-Cast Defense er altid med -10 på Casting Total, og skal enten være Spontaneous eller en Formulaic med Fast-Cast Mastery

Lab texts

  • Copying Lab texts: Use Latin x10 levels to copy if you don't have Profession: Scribe. Otherwise use Scribe if it is more beneficial.
  • Labtekster og 'Designed for Individual': Du kan genbruge en labtekst, men ændre hvilket individ den givne labtekst er designet til (mht Warping). Dette kræver dog at du har brugt labteksten 'as is' mindst en gang, da man skal 'følge opskriften helt mindst én gang'.

Reputation

  • Reputation is intended to actually mean a difference. Hence it is used to affect social endeavours - a magus well-known for certain relevant and appropriate actions or attitude has an easier time affecting other magi in social situations. In essence a magus' Hermetic reputation should be added to social rolls, if relevant.
  • For simplicity it is recommended to avoid too many different Reputations, especially those among small groups, and to limit the fluctuations. Bonisagus- and notably Flambeau Acclaim are prime examples for this. More general Hermetic Reputation is recommended. However a Flambeau magus with a Hermetic Reputation who boasts many of the exploits listed for Flambeau Acclaim may perhaps enjoy an effectively higher regard among his house mates.
  • A Reputation starts with a single noteworthy action, and affects the type gained. If a significant instance of an action from the list below is performed, or several of them within the same year, this will suffice. Knowledge of the deed must be spread; it must be performed before several magi who each in turn are assumed to spread the word, or in case of a text it must be circulated to more than one covenant.
  • The Reputation is granted a further 1 Exp for each of these actions (cue taken from Flambeau and Bonisagus Acclaim):
    • First visit (of significance) to a covenant, or for (lesser) visits to a series of covenants during a season
    • Each (significant part of a) season spent at another covenant along with resident magi
    • Each service provided (of significance, most likely a season long project) for a magus at another covenant
    • Each season creating devices which are gifted to a Redcap
    • Participating in Tribunal. This may also apply for other actions concerning the entire Tribunal, like participating in an investigation, Wizard's War, or Wizard's March
    • Raising a political issue at Tribunal. Also applies for actually winning a debate or political case. E.g. having an ownership claim for a vis source confirmed
    • Conducting a Wizard's War, or contributing significantly to a March. Greater victories may yield further exp
    • Winning a Certamen fought over non-trivial disagreements
    • For each of the wizardly exploits like: bonding with a familiar, creating a talisman, taking an apprentice, finishing the training of an apprentice, one of your fili does something noteworthy or achieves a higher rank.
    • Besting or defeating a being or creature of Might 15+ - if information is spread.
    • Writing a useful book or making a powerful or unique lab text of own devising available - if the work is circulated. An exp per 20 levels of lab texts or a book's level+quality during a year seems fair.
    • Actions directly related to the Reputation may warrant bonus exp, as may greater deeds.
    • Attaining the Rank of Master in the Rhine requires both a mechanical and story driven endeavour. Story wise you need support. Mechanically you need to first start up a Rep for something noteworthy to magi, and achieve a Score of (at least) 3.
  • Attaining the rank of Archmage in the Rhine requires significant accomplishments, meaning the Hermetic reputation used to become Master needs to be raised to 4. Once an Archmagus' challenge has been met and overcome the magus gains the Hermetic reputation as Archmage as well - a rep usable outside the Rhine!

Magic and spellcasting

  • Clarification of Mu Vi metamagic: The MuVi spell like 'Wizard's Intensity/Reach/Extension/Expansion/Growth is cast the round before the spell it will affect. Even D:Mom is sufficient for this, as it only needs to last until the target spell is cast. In the next round the target spell - to be affected by metagic - must be cast, or else the MuVi fizzles. Remember the Stm+Conc of 9+ to hold onto the MuVi spell while casting the target spell. Therefore it is Imperturbable Casting of the MuVi spell that affects the Concentration roll. See new spell mastery Metamagic
  • Spells to affect Creatures of Might need to be specific for either Form or Realm. So Vim spells affect creatures of the specified Realm regardless of Form. While [Form] spells affect creatures of specific [Form] regardless of Realm. Vim is not the catch-all solution to Might-affecting spells, one could specialize in a Form instead e.g. Mentem for a ghost-necromancer.
  • Finding vis in the field, as seasonal activity: Must have method to sense vis for long durations of time (e.g. relevant InVi spell D:Sun+), and search in a suitable place (e.g. one with magic aura). Inspired by formulae for Vis Extraction: 1/10 (round up) of Aura+Per+Ability*+Intellego+Vim (or the Form sought after) *) suitable abilities are Magic Sensitivity, Comprehend Magic, Second Sight, Wilderness Sense or in relevant cases Animal Handling, Survival, Profession:Herbalist etc.
  • Magic involving lava, such as creating is with Creo Terram (lava is rock, rock can naturally be a liquid, just as water can naturally be ice), has an Ignem Requisite (no added maginitude as it's inherent). Use guidelines for damage as for Creo Ignem (i.e. at Voice Range damage is [level-5]. Resistance is versus a Terram effect, Resistance Mastery and similar spells for Ignem spells, Pilum of Fire etc is *not* useful as they only cover fire not hot lava. Ward Against Heat & Flames gives a Soak bonus vs lava. Soak is modified by Ignem Form bonus because the heat of the lava is the most dangerous part. Exempli Gratia: "Pilum of Lava" CrTe(Ig) 20, Voice/Mom/Ind, dam +15.

Concentration

Den korte konklusion er:
Det kan være svært at kaste magi, hvis man forstyrres. Magi skal affinde sig med ikke nødvendigvis at kunne kaste formularer hver runde.

Spell Mastery

  • Precise Casting Mastery is elaborated to affect all Finesse rolls for details, targeting, or precision - hence all rolls other than regarding speed! So the two don't stack!
  • House Ruled Mastery Metamagic : With this Mastery ability you may affect own spells with a Muto Vim metamagic spell ala 'Wizard's Intensity/Reach/Extension/Expansion/Growth' in the same round as the target spell. Add Mastery x3 to the effective level to determine the maximum level of spells affected by it. Also - still remember the Stm+Conc of 9+ to pull the feat off, using Imperturbable Mastery of the Vim spell (if relevant). If the roll fails both spells fail to go off, however the target spell still needs to check for a Botch.
  • Masteries Precise Casting and Quick Casting can only be chosen once, but they add Mastery Score instead of simply +1 to Targeting and Initiative respectively. This makes them similar to Imperturbable and allows for further increase in Mastery score to increase the bonus, adding to the value of the Mastery option already chosen. As it does for many other Masteries.

Academics

  • Language requirements (4+ to read in a language, 5+ to write in this language) refer to actual skill levels, specialties are irrelevant for this matter. However, specialties are included for purposes of how fast a Summa is written.

Familiars

  • Familiars learn abilities per the normal rules for characters (ArM5 core), not the slower advancement rules for magical beings (RoP: M). This is one of the advantages afforded them by the Bond.

Virtues

  • Gild Trained may be taken at the same time as Weak Parens, they do not simply cancel each other out, but instead give an opportunity to 'switch' some points from e.g spell levels to Arts or Abilities. Gild Trained is still a +1 Virtue (even though the entire saga may have taken them), and Weak Parens counts as -1 of the -10 points Flaws.
  • Fast Caster virtue adds +3 to the speed roll for Fast Casting, but not affecting normal Initiative rolls for using magic. The Virtue in RAW leaves much to be desired in the way of clarity.
  • The Comprehend Magic ability (from the virtue of the same name) does not allow Magic Theory to be multiplied by Comprehend Magic in the lab total formulae to examine enchanted objects. Rather this effect is used in the lab total to Open the Arts of Gifted individuals who have already had their Arts Opened to another tradition.
